don't need urgency just need a field goal
  • RainyDayInterns 9/8/2013 8:08:19 PM
@Pathie4: A pass requires the catcher to actually hold onto the ball. The INT was IN the hands of the TE.
  • mike 9/8/2013 8:08:27 PM
this is the easy part of the schedule...
  • Zuri Berry 9/8/2013 8:10:38 PM
Brady tries to center the ball on the keeper with 52 seconds left. It's Gostkowski's turn. Bills have used up their timeouts.
  • Dan 9/8/2013 8:10:41 PM
Zolak's description of Ammendola...."Stones, Stones, Stones, regarding Danny''s comeback this half from his groin injury.
  • jojoboxer 9/8/2013 8:10:46 PM
he seems pretty healthy to me just keeps making plays ok he hurt groin but he is still in there carrying this team this durability is a little over blown those injuries that cost him all that time are freak and very rare
  • Shawn 9/8/2013 8:10:55 PM
You guys want stats and pretty plays, or a Super Bowl win? Brady not throwing for 4,000 Yards to super star WR's won them 3 Super Bowls. Throwing for yards to start WR's won them 0 Super Bowls. So far the defense looks very much inproved from last year.
  • Steve 9/8/2013 8:11:06 PM
I'd feel better with a touchdown.
  • Zuri Berry 9/8/2013 8:13:09 PM
0:05 4th quarter: Patriots 23, Bills 21 -- Kick is good. Stephen Gostkowski nails a 35-yard attempt with five seconds left in the game.
  • Zuri Berry 9/8/2013 8:13:55 PM
Danny Amendola had two huge third down grabs on that drive. He has 10 catches for 104 yards.
  • Zuri Berry 9/8/2013 8:14:36 PM
By the way, Shane Vereen has 14 carries for 101 yards. Big time for the Patriots.
  • Zuri Berry 9/8/2013 8:15:09 PM
    FINAL: Patriots 23, Bills 21
  • AussiePatsFan 9/8/2013 8:15:15 PM
Thank goodness! We've got some things to sort out... but a W is a W. Thanks for the coverage Mr. Berry--same time next fans?
  • RobertKadish 9/8/2013 8:15:21 PM
    Welker > Amendola
  • RobertKadish 9/8/2013 8:15:25 PM
    Ridley > Vereen
  • Dan 9/8/2013 8:16:22 PM
Ok, I was wrong, but I can't see how this team cannot make the playoffs playing like they did today. Especially if this is the easier part of their schedule.
  • civdiv 9/8/2013 8:16:29 PM
Playing a vastly improved team on the road, with the youngest team in the league. And we got away with a win. Simmer down now!
  • RainyDayInterns 9/8/2013 8:16:33 PM
The Pats got their butts handed to them and they still walked away with a W...not the best way to start the season, but a win is a win.
  • Dodging a bullet? 9/8/2013 8:16:42 PM
It isn't pretty, but I'll take it. I'll also be keeping an eye on the Bills QB, Manuel. It looks like he has a future.
  • AussiePatsFan 9/8/2013 8:17:59 PM
Yeah, good job Bills, really... you've got the makings of a fine team by the sounds of it. Looking forward to round two.
  • Matt Pepin, Sports Editor 9/8/2013 8:18:28 PM
The Patriots don't meet the Bills again until the final game of the season.
  • Shawn 9/8/2013 8:18:30 PM
I thought the Patriots played a better game, freak fumble by Ridley that went for 6. The defense played really well, they did not put pressure on Manuel because of his ability to run. Contain him and they did. Good win, most upsets happen in week 1.
  • Russ Francis' Ukelele 9/8/2013 8:18:39 PM
Should be a good week on the talk radio circuit. My expectations are tempered now...
  • Charles McCarthy 9/8/2013 8:18:55 PM
Turnovers were uncharacteristically a problem today . Ridley has had this issue before. The defense looks improved . time for New York
  • J.T. 9/8/2013 8:33:44 PM
who does Brady trust now, other than Edelman and Amendola (when he's on the field)?
  • Dodging a bullet 9/8/2013 8:33:59 PM
Where do we find some receivers before Thursday night?

A 35-yard field goal by Stephen Gostkowski with 5 seconds left lifted the Patriots to a 23-21 victory in their season-opener on Sunday.
  • Matt Pepin, Sports Editor 9/8/2013 8:57:37 PM

Stephen Gostkowski kicked the game-winning field goal from 35 yards.

  • Belichick on passing game: We had our moments.
  • By the way, Shane Vereen has 14 carries for 101 yards. Big time for the Patriots.
  • Belichick: I think Shane stepped up and had a good game for us.

The Buffalo Bills had their moments to close the door on Tom Brady and the Patriots Sunday, with more than one opportunity to end New England’s nine-game season-opening win streak.

But rookie quarterback E.J. Manuel couldn’t move the offense when Buffalo needed it most, leaving Brady the one thing he needs: a chance. And Brady, as he’s done time and again, made the most of it, moving an otherwise shaky defense 49 yards in 12 plays, enough for Stephen Gostkowski to make a 35-yard field goal with just five seconds left in the game.

It gave New England the winning points for a 23-21 victory, the 10th consecutive season-opening win for the Patriots.

    Stephen Gostkowski postgame

On the first field goal that looked weird
Maybe it wasn't our smoothest operation, but it doesn't really matter what it looks as long as the results good. I'm sure we'll go back and look at it and tighten it up. We're -- me, Danny [Aiken] and Ryan [Allen] -- we're perfectionists. I'm sure there are other snaps and holds that he probably felt could've been better. And I'm sure a couple of my kicks could've been better. Nothing is every perfect, you just kind of work to do the best you can every time.

    On the game winner
It wasn't the smoothest operation. I had to make an adjustment. Ball came out a little low, I was lucky it didn't get blocked. But any time there is a little glitch in whatever the operation is it's my job to adjust. Those guys do such a great job. They bail me out sometimes and I bail them out sometimes. And it just worked out for everyone. It's never perfect that why we practice all the time.

    On struggling in the preseason
I've had preseasons where I've gone 10 for 10 and missed my first two kicks. I remember my second year in the NFL I missed four kicks in the preseason and didn't miss but three the whole year. Sometimes it's good to get a couple of bad games out of the way. It's nothing that I like to do. But you know there's always a lot circumstances that go into what happens, I'm just happy to come out on the positive side.
  • 1-0!!! How about that Steve Gostkowski guy!! Can't wait to get back as correct some things for next week! #BringOnTheJets
  • #Patriots will have just 5 captains this season - Brady, Mayo, Mankins, Slater & Wilfork. surprisingly, McCourty not re-elected
  • Tom Brady on Danny Amendola: "He really toughed it out, which was pretty impressive. He fought all day."
