Former Patriots running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis punched in a 1-yard touchdown as the Bengals took a 13-3 lead with 9:21 left in the fourth quarter. The Patriots quickly came back, driving down the field in seven plays, scoring on a 19-yard field goal by Stephen Gostkowski to pull the team within a touchdown, 13-6, but couldn't make pull off the comeback for the team's first loss of the season.

Tom Brady was intercepted by the Bengals' Adam Jones with 16 seconds left in the game to seal it.

Bengals kicker Mike Nugent has hit two field goals, including one from 50 yards in the third quarter.

Gostkowski also kicked a 42-yard field goal before the end of the first half.

Here's what we'll be watching in today's game.

    1. The Wilfork replacement committee -- Whether it's Tommy Kelly, Joe Vellano, Chris Jones, Chandler Jones, or some mix of the four, the Patriots will be hoping for solid production at both defensive tackle spots. Any one of these players will have an opportunity to show what they can do, just with an added bit of attention following Vince Wilfork's season-ending injury. All the more reason to do well.

    2. Two backs left -- The Patriots will have to rely on the instinctive running abilities of LeGarrette Blount and the little used Brandon Bolden without Stevan Ridley (knee) against the Bengals. Cincinnati sports the 11th-ranked run defense, allowing only 3.8 yards per attempt and 99 yards per game. Blount and Bolden so far have accounted for a combined 223 yards rushing. Bolden, who has been hampered with a knee injury himself, has only nine rushing attempts this season but averages 7.6 yards per carry.

    3. Another talented receiver needs to be shut down -- The Patriots held their own against one of the best receivers in the game in Week 4 with Julio Jones. While Jones had six receptions for 108 yards, he was largely locked up when covered by Aqib Talib, who shadowed Jones through most of the game. Talib will have his work cut out for him against the Bengals' A.J. Green, another tall (6-4) and athletically gifted player who has been highly productive. He has 26 receptions for 300 yards and three touchdowns. Green is tied for the NFL lead with 51 targets. The next closest Bengal, in terms of targets, is wide receiver Sanu Mohamed (16). It's almost a sure thing that the Bengals will look to Green first in their passing attack. Talib will have to be ready.

Danny Amendola will be active for the Patriots Sunday against the Bengals, his first game since Week 1 of the regular season.

Inactive for the Patriots are newly signed WR Austin Collie, S Tavon Wilson (hamstring) WR Matthew Slater (wrist), TE Rob Gronkowski, RB Stevan Ridley (knee), OL Chris Barker (OL) and LB Steve Beauharnais.

The Bengals will be without defensive backs Leon Hall (hamstring) and Brandon Ghee (thigh) as well as defensive end Michael Johnson (concussion), all listed inactive after appearing on the injury report this week.

Also inactive for the Bengals: G Mike Pollak (knee), OL Tanner Hawkinson, RB Rex Burkhead, and WR Ryan Whalen.

One other thing of note: Leon Washington is active and should be considered the team's third running back. He's a viable third down option.

End of first quarter: Patriots 0, Bengals 0 -- A nice drive by the Bengals was snuffed out by the Patriots thanks to a Brandon Spikes interception on Andy Dalton. Spikes was in coverage of tight end Tyler Eifert. It was the Patriots' first red zone stop of the game.

15:00 2nd quarter: Patriots 0, Bengals 0 -- It's interesting to point out that Andy Dalton has yet to target A.J. Green, who leads the league with 51 targets. Instead, the Bengals have given the Patriots a heavy dose of their tight ends, Jermaine Gresham and Tyler Eifert.

3:12 2nd quarter: Bengals 3, Patriots 0 -- Backup Patriots defensive tackle Chris Jones beat Andre Smith to sack Cincy quarterback Andy Dalton for a 9-yard loss, knocking the Bengals out of the red zone. But it wasn't enough to keep the Bengals from their first score of the evening, a 39-yard field goal by Mike Nugent. Dalton connected with his top wide receiver for the first time of the game with 6:18 to go in the second quarter. They connected twice for 29 yards.
