Patriots at Panthers Monday Night Football live updates

Zuri Berry provides updates as the Patriots face the Carolina Panthers on Monday Night Football.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Tom Brady was deadly efficient and the Patriots' defense made just enough plays down the stretch, overcoming a 10-0 deficit to take a 20-17 lead over the Carolina Panthers with more than six minutes remaining Monday night.

But they couldn't hold on in crunch time.

Cam Newton led the Panthers on a 13-play, 83-yard drive that spanned 5:33 in the fourth quarter, hitting Ted Ginn Jr. for a 25-yard touchdown, to put the Patriots away, 24-20.

The Patriots dropped to 7-3 on the season.

Brady had an opportunity for another  fourth quarter comeback attempt, trying to bring his team back for the 39th time of his career. He drove the Patriots down to the Carolina 18-yard line with three seconds left on the clock. With one play left, he dropped back and eyed Rob Gronkowski for a touchdown, but under threw the pass, getting intercepted by  Robert Lester.

Brady finished 29 of 40 passing for 296 yards, including a 9-yard touchdown throw to Gronkowski.

Newton threw for 209 yards and three touchdowns for the Panthers, adding 62 yards rushing to lead all runners in the game.
