Live Updates: Patriots vs. Eagles
Get insider commentary, analysis, and probably some snark from Boston.com's Zuri Berry, Erik Frenz and Jeff Pini as the Patriots take on the Philadelphia Eagles in their second preseason game.
Scoring Summary
0:00 3rd quarter: Patriots 42, Eagles 35 — Matt Barkley threw a 27-yard touchdown to running back Henry Josey on screen pass, embarrassing the Patriots' Marcus Forston as he turned the defensive tackle around on his way to the end zone. Barkley led the Eagles on an 8-play, 77-yard drive.
5:15 3rd quarter: Patriots 42, Eagles 28 — Ryan Mallett threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Brian Tyms, who ran a fly route. Tyms made a fantastic catch with a defender in place. The score capped another quick drive, three plays for 28 yards.
6:23 3rd quarter: Patriots 35, Eagles 28 — Ryan Mallett completed two passes, including a 23-yarder to Josh Boyce, before letting Jonas Gray and Roy Finch take it the rest of the way. Finch ran in a 10-yard touchdown as the Patriots pulled ahead again, capping a 6-play, 80-yard drive.
9:36 3rd quarter: Patriots 28, Eagles 28 — Eagles quarterback Mark Sanchez connected with wide receiver Damaris Johnson in the flat for a 5-yard touchdown as Philadelphia tied up the game with the Patriots again. It was a 10-play, 80-yard drive by the Eagles led by Sanchez.
13:39 3rd quarter: Patriots 28, Eagles 21 — Patriots backup quarterback Ryan Mallett ran in a 6-yard touchdown to complete a three-play drive after a Duron Harmon interception. It appeared the defense didn't think he would run, opening up a lane for him to just jog into the end zone.
0:41 2nd quarter: Patriots 21, Eagles 21 — Eagles backup quarterback Mark Sanchez threw what appeared to be a 6-yard touchdown pass to Ifeanyi Momah that went off Momah's hands (and the ground) before it bounced up and was caught by Eagles receiver Arrelious Benn. It was 5-play, 61-yard drive in only 1:07 to tie the game.
3:35 2nd quarter: Patriots 21, Eagles 14 — Following a blocked punt, the Eagles' Nick Foles orchestrated a quick, 4-play drive that culminated with a 4-yard touchdown pass to tight end Zach Ertz. Patrick Chung was in coverage.
8:44 2nd quarter: Patriots 21, Eagles 7 — Jimmy Garoppolo found new Patriots wide receive Brandon LaFell in the back of the end zone for a 4-yard touchdown, leading New England on a 13-play, 75-yard drive for the score.
2:39 1st quarter: Patriots 14, Eagles 7 — Jimmy Garoppolo connected with fullback James Develin for a 15-yard touchdown in the flat. Garoppolo came in the game to replace Tom Brady and immediately went 2 for 2 passing, completing both passes to Develin.
5:09 1st quarter: Patriots 7, Eagles 7 — Tom Brady hit wide receiver Kenbrell Thompkins on a back shoulder pass for a 15-yard touchdown. The Patriots were boosted on their 9-play, 74-yard touchdown drive by four defensive penalties, two of which were declined or offset. Brady went 3 of 3 passing on the drive.
10:41 1st quarter: Eagles 7, Patriots 0 — Cary Williams intercepted a Tom Brady pass for Steve Maneri and returned it 77 yards — avoiding a diving Brady on the way — for a touchdown. Williams, known for calling the Patriots cheaters, seems to be backing up his talk with his play.

Zuri Berry 8/16/2014 12:52:49 AMTaylor McCuller drops a Jimmy G pass. The linebacker/fullback is getting his offensive snaps but not doing himself justice.
-
by Erik Frenz via twitter 8/16/2014 12:53:20 AMTaylor McCuller has been playing both offense and defense in practice, so maybe he forgot which he was doing that time?
-
by Erik Frenz via twitter 8/16/2014 12:53:43 AMThe Patriots offensive line has been flagged for three hands-to-face penalties. Cannon has back-to-back penalties of his own.

Zuri Berry 8/16/2014 1:06:49 AMAbsolutely ridiculous. Mark Sanchez pass to Ifeanyi Momah goes off his hands (and ground) to Arrelious Benn for the TD. After reviewing the play, the officials upheld the call on the field.

by Erik Frenz via twitter 8/16/2014 1:06:51 AMRuling stands. Good call. Not enough to overturn it in my opinion.

Zuri Berry 8/16/2014 1:16:36 AMTom Brady made his preseason debut, completing 8 of 10 passes and leading the Patriots to a touchdown drive in two series of play before exiting Friday against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Brady connected with wide receiver Kenbrell Thompkins for a 15-yard touchdown. He also threw an interception to Philadelphia's Cary Williams that was returned 77 yards for a touchdown. He finished with 81 passing yards, a touchdown, and an interception.
Patriots rookie quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo entered the game after Brady. He threw two touchdowns in the first half on 6 of 12 passing for 72 yards. He found fullback James Develin and wide receiver Brandon LaFell for scores.
The Eagles' Nick Foles threw a 4-yard touchdown to tight end Zach Ertz while backup quarterback Mark Sanchez — the former New York Jet — threw a disputable 6-yard touchdown to Arrelious Benn that appeared to bounce off the ground after going through Ifeanyi Momah's hands, his intended target.
The Patriots and Eagles were knotted at the half, 21-21. -
