New England Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski nailed a 31-yard field goal in overtime, lifting the Patriots over the Denver Broncos, 34-31.

The Patriots battled back from 24-0 deficit to win the game. But it wasn't without adversity.

Demaryius Thomas beat cornerback Aqib Talib on a quick fade route for an 11-yard touchdown with 3:06 left in the fourth quarter as the Broncos tied the Patriots, 31-0, before heading into overtime.

Julian Edelman juked once, then for a second time, before diving into the end zone on a 14-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter. Stephen Gostkowski followed up with a 31-yard field as the Patriots went on a run in the second half.

Tom Brady connected with Edelman for a 5-yard touchdown pass, Brandon Bolden punched in a 1-yard touchdown, and Brady hit Rob Gronkowski for a 6-yard touchdown, all in the third quarter, as the Patriots cut the Broncos lead to 24-21.

In the first half, Peyton Manning threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Jacob Tamme, his first touchdown reception of the season, in the second quarter.

Denver kicker Matt Prater made a 27-yard field with 2:57 left in the first quarter as the Broncos jumped ahead thanks in part to three Patriots turnovers.

Running back LeGarrette Blount fumbled on a 9-yard run, setting up Prater's field goal.  And Brady was sacked by Von Miller, taking a crushing hit that caused him to fumble. Two plays later, the Broncos' Knowshon Moreno plowed into the end zone for a 2-yard touchdown as Denver went up 14-0.

Miller, the Broncos' linebacker, had made another impact play earlier when he picked up a Stevan Ridley fumble and rumbled 60 yards for a touchdown with 9:54 left in the first quarter.
