The cost of Super Bowl ads is always amazing to me. I've always wondered what you could buy for the $4m price. Apparently, you could buy all the ads on Yahoo!'s front for like a week. Also like 100m video network impressions. Check out these breakdowns by Digiday.

This Kia Sorento commercial is only a teaser, but I'm OBSESSED. Babies and pandas! If they bring in an 80s TV star, I may just die.

This ad has been causing all sorts of controversy. Any thoughts?

AdAge.com is reporting that Subway is expected to bring Jared, our sub-eating diet friend, back for a Super Bowl commercial. I really hope Coke or some other undietetic company comes right after.

Finally, The Rock has come back to the Super bowl! The Milk Processor Education Program, known as MilkPep and popular for its "Got Milk?" print ads, is featuring actor and professional wrestler Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in a 30-second ad in the second quarter that is directed by Peter Berg.

Remember this 1984 beauty of a commercial from Apple? It makes me appreciate my iPhone a little more as I sit mindlessly in a meeting hoping someone e-mails me. I think this may be my favorite Super Bowl commercial ever. With the exception of Betty White playing football.
  • Joe Allen-Black, Boston.com 2/1/2013 6:51:16 PM
Alright, since we're talking about Betty White ...

Say what you will about Britney Spears, but I will forever love this Pepsi commercial she did before she went all .... well, wherever she went.

I'm rewatching last year's popular David Beckham ad. To anyone looking at my screen, it's for work. I promise.
  • Angela Nelson, Boston.com... 2/1/2013 8:07:41 PM
Bravo, Joe Allen-Black. Good post. More David Beckham underwear ads, please.

I've never liked pugs. Except the one in Men in Black. He was cool.

Nothing is complete in Boston without a sports reference. Look at this amazing 1993 matchup by McDonald's that has Larry Bird going up against Michael Jordan. I'd give a Big Mac to watch that.

Advertisers are finding new ways to get viewers into the game during Super Bowl XLVII, which airs on CBS on Sunday. The Associated Press wrote about five campaigns that enlist viewer help in one form or another. www.boston.com
  • Julie Balise 2/1/2013 9:05:13 PM
    Amy Poehler is the best.

Thank God. GoDaddy.com is actually telling us what they do this year in their commercials. I don't miss Danica Patrick in the slightest.
  • Joe Allen-Black, Boston.com 2/2/2013 6:04:13 PM
Blah! I just realized that I'll miss Downton Abbey on Sunday for the Brand Bowl. Totally worth it though - if for no other reason than seeing this full commercial by Kia:

So what Super Bowl commercial has had the most early hype? According to Ad Age magazine Toyota is taking the early lead: "As of Friday morning, the automaker has more than 11 million views on its 'Wish Granted' campaign, including 3.2 million on this excellent teaser, according to Visible Measures, which tracks all views across the web, not just YouTube." ABC News is calling the ads by Samsung, Axe Apollo, and Allstate Insurance the ones to watch out for tomorrow. I hadn't seen the Samsung nor the Allstate ones before this. I'm kinda meh about those two.
  • Joe Allen-Black, Boston.com 2/2/2013 9:19:15 PM
I 100 percent agree with ABC that the Axe Apollo one is amazing.

Check out this year's E-Trade commercial below. Anyone else think that kid is uber-creepy? Now they've got him partying and even playing Polo. It scares the bejesus out of me.

Huffington Post has a pretty scathing critique of Super Bowl commercials that I'm seeing popping up all over the Web. It says: "What meaning will [our children] derive about the roles of men and women in society, after watching a Go Daddy or Carl's Jr. commercial that depicts women as objects or men as unfeeling brutes? What kinds of dreams will they build for themselves?" Ouch. Worth a read. Check it out.

Check out Mashable's list of best Super Bowl commercials ever. Boston.com readers named Mean Joe Green the best one ever last year. It destroyed the Cindy Crawford commercial to make it to the top.

Samsung released it's full commercial in advance of the Super Bowl.

Take a look at Paul Rudd and Seth Rogen in the new Samsung commercial below. Who would think bringing those two together would work?! But, oddly, it does. Although, Rogen thinking he's more a celeb than Rudd is laughable.

According to AdAge.com: Model Matthew Terry will flex muscles in an ad for Calvin Klein. Think he'll be better than David Beckham last year? Here are some SFW photos.

Anyone else getting creeped out by all the promo videos of players where they zoom WAAAY in on the faces? No one looks good in HD that close.

The little kids in the Pizza Hut pre-game commercial were beyond adorable.
  • Joe Allen-Black, Boston.com 2/3/2013 11:17:03 PM
Beyonce is a beautiful woman. But the low bedroom voice in the L'Oreal commercial was a little unnerving.

The Sandy Hook students are stealing the show. It's a tear jerker.

Not sure Jennifer Hudson adds anything here.
