Back Bay Blackout
NStar says power is restored to city, some residents disagree; system may not return to normal until early next week
NStar officials said this afternoon that the company had used “jumper cables” to restore power to the thousands of Boston customers who had been without electricity since a smoky transformer fire Tuesday night at a substation in the Back Bay area.
The only area still without power was the Prudential Center, the officials said, describing reconnecting that building as a complex job that would take more time. But some residents reported that they remained in the dark.
Meanwhile, a manhole fire erupted on Huntington Avenue this afternoon near Belvidere Street around the same time as NStar officials held a news conference at the substation. >> Full story
