April 12: Red Sox-Yankees live updates
Updates and commentary as the Red Sox take on the New York Yankees on Saturday, April 12.
FINAL: Yankees 7, Red Sox 4
The Yankees padded their lead in the bottom of the eighth, as Kelly Johnson hit the fifth Yankee home run of the afternoon to make it 7-4.
The Red Sox kept pushing, however, as Mike Carp singled to left with the bases loaded to score Bradley and Nava, cutting the deficit to 6-4. The Yankees had two on in the bottom of the frame, but Xander Bogaerts got the Red Sox out of the inning with a over the back catch in centerfield.
Lackey's long-ball struggles continued in the sixth inning, as Brian McCann launched his second home run of the game, just after Carlos Beltran doubled, to make it 6-2 Yankees, with Lackey giving up four home runs on the day.
The Yankees took the lead back in the bottom of the third, when Brian McCann hit a solo home run into the right field stands. Alfonso Soriano added another home run right after, making it three given up by Lackey on the afternoon to put the Yankees up 4-2.
Just a half inning after Beltran made it 2-0, A.J. Pierzynski made it a brand new ballgame, hitting a two-run homer of his own following a Xander Bogaerts single to tie the game 2-2.
The Yankees struck first when Jacoby Ellsbury reached on a bunt single and Carlos Beltran blasted a homer deep to right field to put the Yankees up 2-0.
