Live blog: Earthquake in Maine felt in Boston area.

A 4.0 magnitude earthquake struck Maine about 20 miles west of Portland tonight and was felt as far south as Boston, according to the US Geological Survey.

    Felt it in Tilton, NH. Whole house shook, went on and on. Thought it was the laundry, or the furnace, then realized it was an earthquake and almost ran out of the house.

    Allston, here, near the Mass Pike and Harvard Square/Cambridge. Whole house shook, rattled my cabinets and dishes. Almost blamed it on the neighbors kids.

    Felt it in Revere... about a 2-3 second shaking of the building.. I live in the Old mill which is on pilings in the creek - I thought for a second the whole thing was were going into the drink

    Felt in Winthrop, house shook, never feel that with planes landing at Logan across harbor. That it was an earthquake but figured it was a big plane.

    In Concord, MA it sounded like a big truck hit a tree...loud thud. Upstairs, my wife felt the whole house shaking.

    One daughter and I did not feel it in Wilmington (I was busy and daughter was on the phone). Other daughter (doing hw) and neighbors did. My husband was driving home and did not feel it.

    I felt it in Merrimack, NH while on the ground floor of a large building. Felt like when the backup power generators are kicking in but I was on on the phone with a fellow in Newburyport, MA who is a former-Californian so he knew what it was for sure.

    Felt in Arlington Heights. Second floor swayed, in basement sounded like rumbling. Small things skittered in cabinets, fixtures swayed. No damage. Unmistakable. Wild!

    Felt like when they were demolishing the school nearby - but the new one is all constructed! Then had a flash - must be the paving truck - but of course not after dark. After a few more seconds, with even more shaking, my brain told me it must be an earthquake...Hope things are OK in Maine.
