Live blog: Earthquake in Maine felt in Boston area.

A 4.0 magnitude earthquake struck Maine about 20 miles west of Portland tonight and was felt as far south as Boston, according to the US Geological Survey.

    The house shook, first lightly for a second, then deeply for several seconds. No damage.

    Winthrop, across from the runway first thought it was a plane/truck going by. A pretty good shaking by our standards since we're used to the jets/Deer island traffic.

    Thought it was the wind. Went outside to get my cat, Sparky in, and saw it wasn't windy. Looked downstairs to make sure the water heater didn't burst. Was a very wierd 5 seconds in Hudson, MA.

    I was walking down the hall and the floor under me shook. I fell over and hit my head on the printer. Now I have a big red bump. I hate you, earthquake! Come fight me like a man!

    Sure did! I was in CA for the Loma Prieta earthquake--23 years ago tomorrow--and lived there for ten years, so I'm familiar with the unique sensation! Just didn't expect it here in MA!

    Yup, here in Haverhill, MA, finishing up our dinner-heard a noise, kind of a rumbling near the sink. I thought the cabinet was going to fall off the wall-seriously. It lasted for about 10 seconds or so

    Gloucester MA - felt a light rumble.. like a large truck, but also seemed strange... wasn't sure I actually felt an earthquake til saw friends on facebook saying same thing!

    Definitely felt it in PineHills, Plymouth, MA. My whole kitchen shook and my chandelier was swinging from side to side. My husband felt it in his study where his desk and light swayed.

    All house shook in Allston. Thought a truck had run into the side of the house! Didn't feel the last one, but definitely felt this one!

    We felt it in Westborough too. Hard to believe that an 4.5 earthquake in Maine would be felt so clearly this far away.
